Our House Print

New home gifts: ideas, and a print of their house

A nice new home gift is one the household will use or want to look at: something they've asked for, something for the house, or a print of the home itself if they'd enjoy that. Here's how to choose, and where a house print fits.

What is a nice gift for a new home?

One they'll use or enjoy straight away. Something they've asked for, a plant, food for the first night or a meal together are easy to get right. If they like to mark a move, a print of the house itself is another route: it's made from a photo of their home, so it can't be mistaken for a gift bought in a hurry. If they've asked for no presents, believe them.

What is a thoughtful gift for a new home?

One that shows you listened. Check whether they've a wish list, ask what the house is still missing, and think about the space before the object. A practical item they've requested or help with unpacking can say more than something decorative.

A house picture only suits someone who'd want one. It's the wrong choice for a person who prefers to choose their own art or hasn't decided how to use the walls, so ask about the image, the colours and the intended spot rather than assuming a familiar building suits every household.

What gift brings good luck to a new home?

No gift is documented in Britain as the one for a new home. Housewarming traditions sets out the customs that do have a source, such as first-footing and bread and salt, and says what we couldn't verify.

Two ways to use a photograph

A photograph of a house front beside a framed pen and wash drawing of a similar house.
The photograph as it is, or an illustration made from it.

Print the photograph as it is if the existing image is what they want; for an illustrated version, choose an optional AI-made style. Use a photo you own or have permission to use, and confirm the rights or permission to transform and reproduce it as requested on every upload.

Each verified client can generate up to three successful AI previews per day. Results appear individually with watermarks, and you explicitly select the result to continue with. Compare house details against the original, then check the product crop and price. There is no text-personalisation field in this route.

New home gifts for friends

For a friend, the question is how close you are. A close friend may welcome something for the walls of the new place, or an offer to help unpack. A friend you see now and then is easier to buy for with something small they can use straight away. If a friend has said they like to mark a move, a print of their house suits someone with a wall already chosen: the unframed print if they frame things themselves, the mug if they have nowhere to hang anything yet. If you only have a photo, house illustration from your photo shows what we can make from it.

Framed, or not

This is the format decision that matters most, and it's about the person rather than the picture. A framed print means one less job for them. An unframed one costs less and lets them choose their own frame, or none. Buy the frame if you know the room, or if you know them well enough to know they'll never do it themselves. Buy unframed if they have a look they stick to, or if they're renting and everything will move again inside a year. Current prices are on each page below.

  • Unframed print: from A4 up to 70x100 cm.
  • Framed print: A3 or A2, in black or natural wood.
  • Canvas: from 30x40 to 60x80 cm.
  • Metal print: from 30x40 to 50x70 cm, a harder, brighter finish than paper.
  • Mug: for the version that gets used rather than hung.

A gift for their first Christmas there

A flat wrapped parcel leaning by a small lit fir tree in a newly moved-into room.
No baubles from us: the picture is the present, and your card carries the words.

If they moved this year, the first Christmas in the new place is a good moment for a house print. We don't sell baubles or ornaments, so the print is the gift, and your own card carries the words. Delivery is in working days, 4 to 9 for standard and 3 to 6 for priority, and an illustrated house takes longer because you approve the preview first. First Christmas in a new home has the detail, and what to write in a new home card has messages to copy.

Leave room for their decision

If the household is still decorating, offer to choose the format together later. For a shared gift, agree the total budget before collecting contributions. Don't assume a larger piece is more welcome, or that a mug will be used because it needs no wall space.

More specific advice

All the guides are together on the gift guides page, and ready-made houses are in the shop. The gift guide helps with the broader decision. Read first home gifts for a first home, moving house gifts for leaving as well as arriving, or new home gifts for men for preference-led ideas. Personalised new home gifts explains the photo-based options; housewarming gifts focuses on the occasion.

A few practical answers

What is Our House Print?
Our House Print offers prints and gifts made using a house photograph, either directly or with an optional AI illustration style. Compare the formats, sizes and current prices before choosing.
How is the illustration produced?
Upload a photo you have permission to use and choose an AI style. After email verification, each client can generate up to three successful previews per day. Results are shown separately with watermarks; select the image you want and check its details before buying.
Can I add wording?
This route has no text-personalisation field. Use a handwritten note for your message, and check any wording already visible in your uploaded image or AI result.
What photo do I need?
Use the original image file where possible and make sure the part of the home you want in the picture is visible. Confirm the rights or permission for the requested use. Check the available sizes and crop before paying; do not assume every file suits every size.
Can I keep it a surprise?
Keep the occasion or format a surprise if appropriate, but obtain permission to use the image. Ask what the household would welcome and respect a request for no gifts.
How quickly does it arrive?
Standard UK delivery is typically 4 to 9 working days from the order and priority 3 to 6, not counting weekends and bank holidays. An illustrated house takes longer end to end, because you choose and approve the preview first.
